More Free Music Downloads!!!

Thanks to all the folks who visited www.larryreidt.com in December. I had a record number of visits which I find exciting. I hope you enjoyed the free down load of “O Come, O Come Emanuel” I posted during the holidays. I’ll be keeping the song on the website until 1/6/12 (The feast of the Epiphany) so get over there and download it!

This free download thing really seemed to get me some attention so here’s what I’m gonna do. Each month, I’m going to post a free download of a brand new song. This may be a song I’ve had “in the vault” (well…there is no vault, but…whatever…) and I’ve never released or it may be a song I’ve just written and I want to people to hear it right away. In any case, it will be something you haven’t heard at the My Space, Reverb Nation or anywhere else! Some of these songs could make it to a CD at the end of this year, but you could conceivably get the whole thing for free by visiting monthly and downloading! But don’t tell corporate! (ok…there is no corporate either…..it’s just me and Mr. Bud)

It all begins with a new song on 1/6/12!!!!

Spring Hill/Hudson songwriters

Had a great time at BB Magees on county line road here on the Gulf Coast of Florida between Hernando and Pasco counties ('bout an hour north 'o Tampa). The event is hosted weekly by a nice songwriter named Heaven Lee Vaughn who had her sons and father-in-law playing as well! Incidentally, Isaac (younger son) turned 21 yesterday and he chose to play Bass with dear old pops! ("sniff, boo-hoo, so touched") Of course, once word got out that Ike was 21 the bar treated himn to a few cold ones which Doreen & I actually drank (Thanks, Ike! Let's face it. WE did all the work!)

LR is on lockdown

In my non-musical life, I am in the last stages (like a disease) of my Master's Degree program at the University of South Florida (home of the Bulls!). This Friday I'm taking my "comp" exam, which is the cute little 6 hour quiz that determines if the last three years of my life were worth a damn. If I pass, this means I can graduate after my upcoming summer internship.
Soooo”¦”¦.there you are. After this semester, I’ll recommit to music big time. Look for a very interesting new band that may involve people you know. Look for the next CD in June! Be listening for Airplay all over the country. It’s all on the way.
Oh”¦.the degree is in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. Thought you should know.

Great Music in Tampa Bay Area

Doreen & I went out to Jolli Mon’s in Dunedin last night and we enjoyed original music from three great songwriters (plus me).

Scotty Lee Rexroat writes terrific songs about Florida living. I told Scotty last night that most “Florida Folk” music bores me to tears, Scotty is really special. He’s got just the right amount of rough edge and sweetness to make it all work. Even a Yankee like me can appreciate it. He treated us to a brand new song called “I Don’t mind Old Things” (hope I got that title right) and it was a treat indeed. Check out “Saltwater Cowboy” and “Shark Fishing” on his space.

Emily Roff is someone I’ve been looking forward to hearing for a long time. She seems far too tiny for the power of her songs. A terrific voice, presence and some very thoughtful arrangements. My regret is that we were still eating and we couldn’t move closer to the sound to hear more!

Matt Halpern was the featured artist at Jolli Mons last night. Doreen & I finished our food (yummy mushroom swiss burger) and moved up closer. What a fine songwriter! We especially liked his “When you Make my Bed” song. He plays in such an understated way, that his songs sort of sneak up on you and tap on the shoulder from behind. I hope I get more opportunities to hear him.
